This diary will be written about twice monthly
during the summer by either Charlie or Clare to keep you updated with what is happening with the crops, people and wildlife
on the farm and anything else we feel maybe of interest.

When we have finished with some of the fields in the autumn we will
sow barley to keep the soil structure in good order over the winter then in the spring this will be spaded back in as
green manure. Spading is an alternative to ploughing and uses tines rotating and turning the soil over up to a depth of 18
inches so no furrows!!

Its been nearly a month since I last updated !! Oops. We have been
very busy with our wallflower season which is in full swing and going well partly due to the favourable weather conditions,
not too cold and fairly dry. The team are starting work at 7.30am now as it is pitch dark when I arrive and we still have
two weeks until the clocks change back! Now the days are cooler sales of Cavalo Nero (Black Cabbage) increase and we
have to be really vigilant with our pest control particularly against Pigeons who seem to love Black Cabbage as can be seen
in the photo. We use a combination of shooters, rope bangers and helium balloons to try and keep them off but none work completely.

Our most recently planted hedgerows are producing large amounts
of berries which will be good for the wildlife during the winter and we shall not cut them until February. On the wildlife
front there are still bees and the odd butterfly around and our bumble bee strips are still flowering.
