This diary will be written about twice monthly during the summer by either Charlie or Clare to keep you updated with what is happening with the crops, people and wildlife on the farm and anything else we feel maybe of interest.

The last few weeks have been extremely dry and quite cold particularly at night, not good growing weather as the plants get stressed ( its not only us!!) this can result in them running to seed which means they will not be saleable. Its now a week later and the weather has turned glorious and warm with no cold wind. Sweet Williams are starting to flower and we have picked a few bunches along with harvesting Spinach, Coriander, Dill and Spring Onions although the size and quality of the crop is very variable due to the weather.

We had our first Lapwing and Ringed Plover chicks (the other egg in the picture hatched) at the begininng of May but had noticed a significant decline in Lapwing pairs but now 2 weeks on we have 7 Lapwing nests on the go and a couple of Ringed Plover nests and also a Pied Wagtail is nesting in a field crate (we don't need proper nesting boxes!!).  The nectar and pollen strips that were sown a year ago have really flourished in the second year and a surprising benefit and saving to us is that the pigeons love it and will eat this ahead of our Kohlrabi and Spinach.
