This diary will be written about twice monthly during the summer by Clare to keep you updated with what is happening with the crops, people and wildlife on the farm and anything else we feel maybe of interest.

We are now in the middle of August and its holiday season in the UK, all children are off school and you really notice it on the sales.  Some days are very busy others very quiet but last week we had a real flurry of activity as coriander and spinach became very scarce on the wholesale markets (the result of very little rain in June and July). The price for stuff is set on a supply and demand market and when there is no coriander the price shoots up from an average of £3.60  for a box of 12 bunches to between £8.00 and £10.00 a box!!! Unfortunately this is the first time in 20 years it has happened and of course we along with everyone else didn't have large quantities to sell but it was nice while it lasted (which was only a week).

A busy days picking!

I still see the red legged partridges with 3 young and I have tried to photo them with the result below!! They are extremely wary and can run like the clappers and will only fly if absolutely necessary so until I have time to sit and wait to photo them I will leave them alone. Atfter all, this is the first time we have had them breeding on the farm that we can remember so it would be a bit daft to frighten them away!!
